Composers' Competition 2012

The Festival has announced the launch of the 2012 Competition. With a single prize of £1000 (other certificates may be awarded at the Adjudicator's discretion), the competition represents one of two major investments the Festival makes to extend the repertoire available to UK male choirs. The closing date for the competiton is 30th March 2012. Adjudication will take place during April. Participating composers will be invited to a presentation evening at Truro College during the early evening of Friday 14th September 2012 at which the winner will be announced, the prize and any other certificates will be awarded and the winning piece will be sung.

Entries for the last competiton in 2010 were of a very high standard and were written for a wide variety of male voice repertoire types. Full rules and the entry form for the competition are now available for download.

Potential entrants should remember that male choirs tend to sing from memory, many singers are unable to read music but sing very competently in four (sometimes more) parts. A full background briefing for composers is included in the download.

Some composers entered more than one composition in 2010. Please note that one of the rule changes for 2012 is that any entry which is scored incorrectly or written with parts out of the normal singing range for male singers will be disqualified and not included for adjudication. Composers submitting such entries will be notified.

In 2010 a special commendation was given to one composer. No guarantee is given or implied that this could be the case in 2012.
