Dagilelis

Dagilelis a Boys/Youth Choir from Lithuania will be with us. With the adjacent photograph taken outside the White House in Washington, some idea of the choir's credentials, abilities and touring experience can be guessed at! It is very exciting for the Festival to be able to welcome the choir. It was founded in 1990 and has been directed ever since by Musical Director Remigijus Adomaitis. In 2006 he was awarded the title of "Teacher of the Year" and in 2010 he was given the Golden Star Award of Lithuanian Copyright Protection Association Agency for cultural activity, cherishing choral art and for spreading the works of Lithuanian composers.

St. Petersburg Boys Choir

St. Petersburg Boys Choir has confirmed that it will be participating in the 2013 Festival. It is wonderful that the Festival will be able to welcome this highly talented group of boys and young men under director Vadim Pcholkin. Mr. Pcholkin studied at the Music Higher School at N.A.Rimski-Korsakov Music Conservatory of St Petersburg. He very much supports the traditions of the Saint-Petersburg choir schools, established at the beginning of the 20th century by Mikhail Klimov. Vadim Pcholkin was distinguished with an award by the Governor of Saint-Petersburg and received a Diploma from the Patriarch of Russia Aleksij II.

2012 Composers' Competition Launched

With a single prize of £1000, the Festival has launched its 2012 Composers' Competetition. This will also be adjudicated by Dr. Alwyn Humphreys, MBE. The closing date for receipt of entries is 30th March 2012. Further details and forms can be downloaded here.

Dr. Alwyn Humphreys (Composers' Competition Adjudicator and Chairman of the Adjudication Panel for the 2013 singing competitions) was described by the Secretary of State for Wales as 'A legend - not only a credit to the world of music, but to the Welsh nation’, He is Conductor Emeritus of internationally acclaimed Morriston Orpheus Choir having conducted it for 25 years. During that time he conducted concerts across the world including the Carnegie Hall, New York and the Sydney Opera House He has recorded albums with the choir (three of which won ‘Best Choral Record‘ awards) and made countless TV appearances.

Born in Bodffordd, Isle of Anglesey, North Wales, Alwyn was Principal Violist of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales before graduating with honours in music at the University of Hull and Trinity College London. In January 2006, the University conferred the degree of Doctor of Music upon him.

Alwyn became a lecturer at the music department of Mabel Fletcher College, Liverpool and then a staff producer/director at BBC Wales, Cardiff, later moving to HTV before becoming a free-lance television presenter. He was created an MBE in the Queen’s 2001 New Year’s Honours List for services to music in Wales.

Alwyn’s musical arrangements for male choir, numbering over 200, are performed by choirs world-wide, with publications in Britain and America. Listed in the ‘International Who’s Who in Music’, he is frequently in demand as a guest conductor and adjudicator at home and abroad. He is Principal Guest Conductor of the National Chamber Orchestra of Wales and continues to combine his conducting career with that of presenting televised programmes and events, including the National Eisteddfod and the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. He also regularly introduces concert broadcasts by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Australian Male Voice Choir is the first choir to register for 2013

The Festival is delighted to announce that the first choir to register for the 2013 Festival is the Sydney Male Choir from Australia. The 80 strong choir, which celebrates its centenary in 2013, will be undertaking a European tour visiting the UK, France and Belgium. The choir will be including appearances at the Festival in its itinerary. It has now been confirmed by Australia's Department of Veterans Affairs, the choir has been chosen to represent Australia at the Anzac Day Dawn Service at Villers-Bretonneux.
